About the event
At the summit of Mount Tsurugi, the second highest peak in Western Japan at an elevation of 1,955 meters, the "Taiyou Festival" is held every year on July 16th, followed by the "Reisai and Omiya Watari Festival" on July 17th. The sacred objects, Chasanoo-no-Mikoto and Antoku Tenno, are carried in a procession around the mountain's summit. The sight of over 100 people in the sacred procession cutting through the steep slopes covered with Kumazasa bamboo grass is truly spectacular. This is the highlight of the current festival.
